Matteo Chinellato

The virtual exhibition

is from March 1st until March 31st. EXTENDED to 7th April

Matteo Chinellato was born in Venice on July 24, 1974. His passion for photography developed from spending time in his parents' art restoration workshop, where he began using analogue cameras to document various art and object restoration stages. At age 10, he received a MUPI M6 camera and started taking photos, becoming familiar with his parents' cameras. Around 1985, during Pope John Paul II's visit to Venice, he first used a Pentax MX camera for event photography, marking the start of his passion for photography.

After graduating in metal arts and goldsmithing, he briefly attended the University for Cultural Heritage Conservation but left to serve in the military. He met Professor Italo Zannier during university, who deepened his interest in photography history and became a lifelong mentor. Chinellato began professional photography in 2009, specializing in micro-macro mineralogical, naturalistic, aeronautical, cinema, and event photography.

He has collaborated with Getty Images, CorbisImages, and other agencies, covering significant cultural events in Venice. He became the official photographer for the Italian Mineralogical Magazine and co-authored a book on minerals.

His first solo exhibition was in 2014 in Mestre and was dedicated to Venice, followed by other exhibitions focusing on cinema and World War I.

He has also participated in photography events and exhibitions related to cinema and other themes in Venice and elsewhere.
